Simply Satvic

Are you Aware at the Supermarket?
The other day I was at the supermarket to get veggies and milk. The veggies are right there close to the entrance door, but for the milk I had to go all the way to the back of the store. So I grabbed a carton of milk for a nice cup of chai, Indian spice tea I had planned to prepare. Then I walked to the front of the store and passed isle after isle of food and beverages.
While passing those isles I was quickly reading the signs that the store hangs from the ceiling saying what one can get there. I thought, not this, not this, not this …, a total elimination process. Then I realized that the store has so much useless food that I have never eaten and never will eat.
Vast amounts of food that is not considered healthy by any means. Food that is altered, contains preservatives, food coloring, chemicals, too much sugar, too much fat… well, I am sure you are getting the idea! A whole industry has evolved around all this junk food. Not only junk food as in soda and sugary treats, but food that is not needed the way it is offered.
Not only is it beneficial to eat with awareness it is also good to grocery shop with awareness and understanding.
Changing Taste and Weight Loss
Looking back at the past year that I have cooked satvic vegetarian food, I can say that satvic food is the healthiest food there is! Not only did I lose close to 25 lb weight changing from a previously vegetarian diet to a satvic diet, but I also realized that my body does not want any other food anymore. My sense of taste has changed and my body is no longer happy with preserved food. My desire for snacking has also reduced.
Wholesome and Healthy Diet
Which food do we really need? Fresh fruit and veggies of course, rice and dal (lentils), bread like chapattis or pappadums, fresh herbs and spices, oil or ghee, home-made yoghurt and perhaps milk. That’s all! These ingredients are sufficient for a wholesome and healthy diet that potentially raises our energy level.
A Refinement in Energy
Home-cooked satvic food produces a refinement in our energy which purifies the body/mind system assisting in healing and establishing harmony between body and mind. A good resource for healthy satvic cooking is Satvic Cafe. Try some new recipes and see for yourself! Most take less than 30 minutes for preparation and taste yummy too!
Are you ready to bring some new ideas to the table?
