Remain Centered
ByWhat does it really mean to be “centered”? This means that you access and start functioning from the center of your being, which is pure intelligence and energy. When you operate from this place, you draw on your innate intelligence and things flow smoothly. You live in the present, not the past or future.
Think of a Ferris wheel constantly rotating in circles from top to bottom, and back again. This is kind of like our minds, constantly moving, and in a state of unrest. The point where all the metal converges in the middle of the Ferris wheel is similar to our core or center. Despite the movement of the outer wheel and passenger chairs, the center remains steadfast, and basically is the power or energy source that holds everything together.
Meditation is the way to rediscover our intelligent center and access creativity from the divine source. Think of the image of the Ferris wheel again. When a passenger car reaches the very top of the Ferris wheel, it stops so the people in the ground level car can exit and enter. Close your eyes for a few minutes and breathe deeply from your abdomen. Imagine your breath as a circular Ferris wheel, and as it stops at the top and bottom, you will notice a “gap”. This is the gap between thoughts.
Earlier today, I definitely was not functioning from my center. My mind was a whirlwind of mostly negative thoughts concerning an issue I was mulling over. I recognized this negative self-talk and destructive behavior, and decided to do something about it. I decided I was not going to think about my problems for the next 48 hours. Sounds easy, huh?
The hardest part was making the firm decision that I was NOT going to focus on my perceived problem or negative thoughts for 48 hours. Once I made the firm resolve, I lay down, focused on my breath and started repeating positive statements and affirmations. My mind became still and I felt peaceful. After approximately ten minutes, I looked at the clock. It felt like I had just experienced a time warp, or a power nap and had just woken up. I really did feel centered and it was as if my inner intelligence had taken over. Afterwards my day flowed beautifully and that negative black cloud disappeared from my consciousness.
Would you be willing to make a conscious decision not to think about your problems for 48 hours?
What affirmations do you use to counteract negative thoughts?
