Fitness is Fun!
By Neve on Tuesday, January 11th, 2011I was at the gym earlier today and attended a Zumba class after work – what a blast! I was dancing my heart out, laughing, having fun, singing along to the music, feeling feminine and sexy, and overall just having a good time. The side benefits of the Zumba class were stress relief, a fantastic cardio workout, sweating out toxins, increasing endorphins, and just plain fun! My friend Jessica was right – you really can Dance your way to Joy!

I’ve noticed that the gym has beena lot busier than usual the past week or so. It’s probably because it is only the second week of January, and I’m sure “Exercising” and “Getting Healthy” were at the top of many people’s list of resolutions. Some people will stick to their resolutions, but many, no doubt, will not. I think the reason many people don’t enjoy working out is that it is just another thing on the “to do” list and they look upon it as a chore. They view it as one more thing they need to squeeze into their busy schedule.
I think the trick is to find out what form of exercise works for you. I’m a total yoga freak, and regularly practice athletic, power styles of yoga along with yin yoga to keep me in balance. However lately I’ve been feeling that I need more cardio also and I also wanted more fun in my life. Over the holiday I sampled many different classes at the gym to find out what I liked. I just love the Zumba class and it kills two birds at once – keeps me fit and is so much fun!
One of my colleagues doesn’t like group classes at all, but she loves to run. That is her form of fitness and her “me” time. Other friends I know are into martial arts and that floats their boat. Another friend loves to belly dance, while another just loves yoga.
Find out what form of exercise you enjoy and make fitness fun! Then you won’t look upon exercse as a chore, you will look forward to it instead. Before you know it you will have established a good habit, and soon it will become a way of life. Then you can enjoy a healthy, fun lifestyle!
