Solstice Stillness
By | Comments
The Winter solstice occurred on Monday. Solstice translates as “sun standing still”. Take a hint from Mother Nature and find some time to be still today. Maybe just sit and enjoy some peace and quiet, curl up and read a good book, or try a quick meditation session.
Monday also marked the change of seasons from Autumn to Winter - a time of reflection and hibernation. Before the end of this year, take some time to retreat and reflect on what happened in your life this past year. Did you just let life happen and deal with the results, or did you set intentions and purposefully manifest what you wanted? Begin to think about and bring clarity to what you truly desire in the future.
How will you experience stillness today?
Silent Night
By | CommentsOne of my favorite carols is “Silent Night”, because it reminds me of my childhood and Celtic Christmas traditions. The lyrics “Silent Night, Holy Night” remind us that silence is holy. This time of the year can be hectic, and sometimes we get so stressed with all the extra hustle and bustle, we don’t enjoy the festivities.
If you are feeling frazzled, take some time to experience silence. Maybe start by turning off your i-pod, MP3 player or TV, and just listen to the sounds of silence instead. If you have kids or a busy household, perhaps designate a half hour of “quiet time” for everyone to do homework or silent reading.
A good meditation technique is to just stop what you are doing. This doesn’t apply only to physical movements. You can also stop feelings, impulses or desires. Whenever you have a strong urge or feeling, just use your Read More→
What is “Monkey Mind”?
By | CommentsMonkeys at Fun Fair
Have you ever heard the phrase “Monkey Mind” and wondered exactly what this means? If you’re new to yoga and meditation, you may be a little confused (just like I was when I first started!).
In a nutshell, “Monkey Mind” describes the constant, internal chatter in our minds. A monkey is a very restless animal, constantly jumping from one tree to another. Likewise, our mind is also restless, always jumping back and forth between illogical, unconnected thoughts. Usually these thoughts jump between the past (regret or guilt) and Read More→
Native American Heritage Day
By | CommentsYesterday was Thanksgiving, a beautiful day to spend time with family and friends and express gratitude. Amidst all the hustle and bustle yesterday, I took a few minutes to reflect on what I am grateful for in my life and counted my blessings. Gratitude is one of the highest states of consciousness, and when you are grateful for what you already have, you attract more good into your life.
With all the fuss surrounding the holiday including grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, and what not, it is easy to forget the origin of the holiday. It started as a celebratory feast between the pilgrims and the indigenous Wampanoag tribe in Plymouth, MA in 1621, following a successful harvest.
Today is another reason to celebrate (no, not because it’s black Friday!). Today is Native American Heritage Day. Earlier this year the house and senate passed a bill designating the Friday following Thanksgiving Read More→
What are Chakras?
By | CommentsChakra literally translates as “wheel” in Sanskrit. Although they are invisible to the human eye, and have never been verified by an autopsy, chakras are vitally important to health. They are energy centers that are located along the spine. Chakras absorb, store, and distribute “prana” or vital life energy throughout the human body. There are seven main chakras or energy centers and each relates to a major organ of the body. In addition, each chakra has a corresponding color that it radiates. If your chakras are balanced and functioning properly, you will have good health and be radiant. If your chakras are imbalanced and not working properly, you will not have optimum health.

What Makes You Come Alive?
By | CommentsWhat is your purpose and passion in life? What do you love to do? What makes you feel vibrant, expansive, and fully alive ?
“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.“ ~ Howard Thurman
My intention for this blog is to help others come alive by being a source of inspiration that empowers people to lead more conscious, joyful, creative, and authentic lives.
What makes me come alive is being creative in all areas of my daily life. I”m passionate about spending time painting in my studio and expressing my visions on canvas. I love blogging and connecting with others through my writing. I’m committed to teaching and inspiring others to reach new heights of awareness and creativity. I’m a yoga fanatic and adore both the physical practice of asanas (postures) and the stillness I find through meditation. Read More→
