Ferris Wheel

Ferris Wheel

What does it really mean to be “centered”?  This means that you access and start functioning from the center of your being, which is pure intelligence and energy.  When you operate from this place, you draw on your innate intelligence and things flow smoothly.  You live in the present, not the past or future.

Think of a Ferris wheel constantly rotating in circles from top to bottom, and back again.  This is kind of like our minds, constantly moving, and in a state of unrest.   The point where all Read More→

One of my favorite carols is “Silent Night”, because it reminds me of my childhood and Celtic Christmas traditions.  The lyrics “Silent Night, Holy Night” remind us that silence is holy.  This time of the year can be hectic, and sometimes we get so stressed with all the extra hustle and bustle, we don’t enjoy the festivities.

If you are feeling frazzled, take some time to experience silence.  Maybe start by turning off your i-pod, MP3 player or TV, and just listen to the sounds of silence instead.  If you have kids or a busy household, perhaps designate a half hour of “quiet time” for everyone to do homework or silent reading.

A good meditation technique is to just stop what you are doing.  This doesn’t apply only to physical movements.  You can also stop feelings, impulses or desires.  Whenever you have a strong urge or feeling, just use your Read More→

Monkeys at Fun Fair

Have you ever heard the phrase “Monkey Mind” and wondered exactly what this means?  If you’re new to yoga and meditation, you may be a little confused (just like I was when I first started!).

In a nutshell, “Monkey Mind” describes the constant, internal chatter in our minds.  A monkey is a very restless animal, constantly jumping from one tree to another.  Likewise, our mind is also restless, always jumping back and forth between illogical, unconnected thoughts.  Usually these thoughts jump between the past (regret or guilt) and Read More→

Chakra literally translates as “wheel” in Sanskrit.  Although they are invisible to the human eye, and have never been verified by an autopsy, chakras are vitally important to health.  They are energy centers that are located along the spine.  Chakras absorb, store, and distribute “prana” or vital life energy throughout the human body.  There are seven main chakras or energy centers and each relates to a major organ of the body. In addition, each chakra has a corresponding color that it radiates.  If your chakras are balanced and functioning properly, you will have good health and be radiant.  If your chakras are imbalanced and not working properly, you will not have optimum health.

Meditation is becoming increasingly popular as a tool for stress relief in today’s fast paced, stress filled, and information overloaded world.  The positive effects of meditation include physical and mental health, as well as emotional and spiritual well-being.  These benefits will be discussed in more detail in a later post “Meditation Benefits Body, Mind, and Spirit“,  but I wanted to elaborate on my personal number one reason for meditating: It reduces the number of negative thoughts in your brain! You have probably not heard this reason for meditating before and you may be thinking  “So what?” and “How is this useful?” Read More→

I have been meditating regularly for over  two years, and I can attest to the transformative power of meditation in my life.  It has helped change my outlook and made me more conscious of decisions I make and how I react to situations.  I now realize how my decisions affect not only myself, but also others around me.

I always wanted to meditate, and had a mental image of meditation as a technique where you had to sit absolutely still in a cross legged position, your mind would automatically be Read More→
