Be Playful and Have Fun!

As we grow up and progress though the life cycle we naturally begin to take on more responsibilities.  Everyone is different, and people do diverse things and in different order, but generally we graduate high school, then move on to trade school or college, next we start our first real job and begin to develop a career.  Next comes a house, marriage, maybe kids … The list is endless!

Somewhere along the line we lose all the playfulness we had as children, and become very serious.   Life becomes dull and seems to be full of responsibility and “to do” lists.

This spring break, I’ve decided to take Cyndi Lauper’s lyrics “girls just want to have fun” to heart.  I’ve decided to focus on fun!  I’ve sprinkled in a few chores and to-do stuff, but not that much.  Last weekend I visited a beautiful art expo with a friend, and the next day went to an Ostrich Festival with my husband.  This is a huge fair with fun rides, vendors, bands, a petting zoo, enough fried food to cause multiple coronaries, and of course – crazy, nonsensical ostrich races.  It was a blast!  Since then I’ve been sleeping in, meditating, eating well, doing yoga, and writing and drawing.  Being Irish, of course I had to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day yesterday.  I can honestly say I’m having tons of fun and loving my life.

Many people equate spirituality with seriousness and get uptight and upright about the whole thing.  This could not be further from the truth.  Highly evolved souls usually appear either totally serene or blissful.  Think of the Dalai Lama – he usually has a big grin on his face!

So let me repeat this:  spirituality ≠ seriousness.   So forget your responsibilities (at least for a day or two) and just have fun and radiate joy and bliss!

What do you do to have fun?

When is the last time you felt totally free of responsibilities?
